An architectural marvel of Pallava era - Vaikunthanatha Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram

Vaikunthanatha Perumal Temple is one of the most important temples in Kanchipuram. Referred to as 'Parameswara Vinnagaram', it is a Divya Desam. Like the Kailasanathar temple, the Vaikunthanatha Perumal temple is an architectural marvel.

As per the legend, the dwarapals of Lord Vishnu were reborn as Pallava and Villava. They performed Ashwamedha Yagna in this place, and Lord Vishnu gave darshan to them.

The temple, built by Nandivarma Pallava, is architecturally beautiful. The main shrine has three floors. On the first floor, Vishnu is found in the sitting posture. On the second floor, he is found in the reclining posture. Here, he is called Ranganatha and is found along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The top floor has Vishnu in the standing posture. There is a separate shrine for Goddess Vaikunthavalli Thayar. The temple is full of rare sculptures which are incredibly gorgeous.

Happy travelling.
