Kariyamanika Perumal Temple, Ayanavaram, Chennai, India

In the Ayanavaram locality of Chennai, there is a 1000-year-old temple for Lord Shiva called Parasura Lingeswarar. Adjacent to this is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu named Kariyamanika Perumal Temple.

Unlike Parasurama Lingeswarar temple, this Perumal temple doesn't seem 1000 years old. However, this small temple is also one of the oldest temples in Chennai. It has Raja gopuram (temple tower). The main shrine has Kariyamanika Perumal (Vishnu) and his two consorts, Sri Devi (Lakshmi) and Bhoo Devi. Opposite the main shrine, there is a flagstaff and an icon of Garuda. The corridor has the shrine of the goddess Kanakavalli. The temple also houses the shrines of Andal and Hanuman.

Happy travelling.
