Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, Sriperumbudur

Rajiv Gandhi, the seventh Prime Minister of India, was assassinated in SriPerumbudur. There is a memorial for Rajiv Gandhi on the site where he was assassinated.


Rajiv Gandhi, the son of Indira Gandhi, became the youngest Prime Minister of India at 40. While campaigning for the election in a small town named Sriperumbudur, located around 40 km from Chennai, he was assassinated. He was reportedly assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber on 21st May 1991. A memorial was built at the site where Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated and opened to the public in 2003 CE.


Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur has become one of the important tourist sites today. Sriperumbudur is already famous for its Adi Kesava Perumal Temple (Vishnu temple), and it is the birthplace of the great Vaishnavite saint Ramanuja.

The memorial of Rajiv Gandhi consists of a square platform on which a raised yellow marble stone is placed along with the picture of Rajiv Gandhi made of a stone block of pink granite. This is the exact location where he was killed. There are seven monumental granite pillars, which encircle the blast site. These seven posts represent the seven concepts - Satya, Dharma, Vigyan, Nyaya, Shanti, Tyaga, and Samrudhi. They also represent the seven sacred rivers of India - Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Godavari, Sindhu, Narmada, and Kaveri.


The memorial also has one of India's most prominent flag posts with the Indian National Flag. Some modern-day sculptures on a wall depict the dream of Rajiv Gandhi.

A 17th century Dargah with healing power - Mount Road Dargah, Chennai, India

Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque . The other one is Dargah-e-Hazrath Syed Moosa Shah Qadri Baghdadi (Rahmatullah Alaihi), also known as Mount Road Dargah. It is the most popular Dargah across the city. Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. The poor was forced to plough an infertile land. While ploughing the ground full of rocks, the villager noticed that blood was oozing out from a particular place.
