Choolai Angalamman Temple, Chennai, India

Angalamman Temple located in Choolai area of northern Chennai is one of the popular Goddess temples of Chennai. You can always find a big crowd in this temple. Angalamman temple is originally a village temple. However, it should have been extended at later date to include various other Hindu deities.

Angalamman temple is divided into two main sections. In one section, the sanctum Angalamman, a red colored big stucco idol, holding a kid in her arms. There is a small Angallamman idol infront of the big idol. The corridor surrounding the shrine of Angallamman has another Goddess too. The entrance of the shrine has idols of some village Gods and Ganesha. The tank is also found opposite to Angalamman shrine.

The second section of the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva named as Viswanathar in this temple. A small idol of Visalakshi is found in a separate shrine. Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are found as the niche images. Chandikeswarar is found in his usual location. The shrines of Ganesha, Murugan, Sivakami-Nataraj, and Bhairav are also found.

The outer corridor of the temple has the shrines of Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Virat Vishva Brahmam and Murugan with Valli and Devasena. Navagraha idols in this temple are unique as they are found along with their respective vahans. In the outer corridor, as this being a village temple, people worship bricks as Sapta Kanyas. Snake worship is also found in the temple. Snake hole is found along with the images of Nagas .

The temple is full of stucco images depicting Shiva and Goddess in various forms and their legends.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque .
