Chennai Sowcarpet Ranganathar Temple

Chennai, one of the most important cities of South India, has too many Hindu temples. Some of them are very ancient. In Sowcarpet area, where North Indians are densely populated, there are few old temples which are very popular among Chennai citizens. Ranganath temple in Mulla Sahib Street in Sowcarpet area is one such old and popular temple of Chennai city.


Ranganathar temple located in Mulla Sahib street of Sowcarpet area is around 500 years old. Ranganath, MahaVishnu in the reclining posture along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi is the presiding deity of the temple. The Goddess of the temple, Ranganayaki is found in a separate shrine.
The temple also has shrines and idols of Andal, Hanuman, Garud, Rama-Lakshman-Sita, Yoga Narasimha,Varadarajar, Srinivasa and Kannan (Krishna).

A 17th century Dargah with healing power - Mount Road Dargah, Chennai, India

Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque . Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. The poor was forced to plough an infertile land. While ploughing the ground full of rocks, the villager noticed that blood was oozing out from a particular place.
