MGR Memorial

M G Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, was the popular Tamil cine artist and later became a great political leader and chief minister of Tamil Nadu state of India. Although he died in 1986, his popularity and fame are utilized even today (after around 25 years) by the political partieis of Tamil Nadu to attract the people's support and votes. MGR had his office in Arcot Street, T Nagar area of Chennai, when he was functioning as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu state. This office building was converted as a memorial after his death and thrown open to the public in 1990.

MGR memorial situated in T Nagar is open between 9 am and 5 pm all days except Tuesdays. The memorial used to be crowded by hundreds of people till last decade. Nowadays, the crowd has decreased; however, still there are people from the villages of Tamil Nadu who visit this memorial without fail, when they come to Chennai.

The memorial displays the car used by him and various medals that he won when he was an actor and a political figure. Apart from the medals and shields, the materials that were used by him such as his famous cap and glass, pen, table, etc. are also displayed in this memorial. The preserved body of dead lion which he had once in his house is also displayed in the memorial. A lot of photographs, some of them are very rare photographs of his political career and his earlier cinema career are also found.

This memorial is worth visiting if you are a fan of MGR.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. The poor was forced to plough an infertile land. While ploughing the ground full of rocks, the villager noticed that blood was oozing out from a particular place. A 17th century Dargah with healing power - Mount Road Dargah, Chennai, India

Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque .
