Satya Narayan Temple - Chennai, India

Satya Narayana is a form of Lord Vishnu. Although there are so many temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his incarnations such as Ram and Krishna, it is very rare to find a temple for Satya Narayana. In Chennai, one of the popular cities of South India, there is a temple dedicated to Satya Nararyana.

Satya Narayan Temple
Satya Narayana temple is located near the famous Ayodhya Mandap in West Mambalam locality in Chennai. The north facing temple is very small and has a small tower. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Satya Narayana. A small bali peeth, flag staff and Garud are found facing towards the sanctum.

Although the temple is small, there are a lot of shrines and idols located in the temple. During Pournami day every month, many devotees visit this temple to attend Satya Narayana Pooja. Near the sanctum, there is a separate shrine with a big idol of Maha Lakshmi. Ram along with his consort Sita, brother Lakshman and his devotee Hanuman are found in a separate shrine. Chakrathalwar along with Narasimha on his back side are also there in a shrine.

There are other shrines/idols such as  Hanuman, Alwars, Srinivasa, Lakshmi Narasimha, Lakshmi Hayagreeva, utsav (bronze) idols of Lakshmi and Satya Narayana and Andal located in this temple.

When you happen to pass by Mambalam area, try to visit this temple.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque .
