Veerabhadra Swamy temple located in Hanumanthapuram village is one such important site near Chenglepet. Hanumanthapuram is a remote village located at a distance of around 10 kms from Chenglepet. This is located off the road towards Thiruporur after Perunthandalam and Senneri villages. The road is not easily motorable and is amidst the reserved forest zone.

In a normal day, you can hardly find anyone visiting Veerabhadra Swamy temple in Hanumanthapuram. However, during the new moon days and full moon days, a lot of devotees throng to this temple. It is believed that mentally ill people get cured if they visit the deity of this temple. Hence, you can find many mentally challegned people in and around the temple.

As per the Hindu mythology, Veerabhadra was born out of Lord Shiva's sweat when he was angry with his father in law Daksh. He created Veerabhadra in order to kill Daksh. Although there are thousands of temples for Lord Shiva, only few temples are dedicated to Veerabhadra. This temple, located in Hanumanthapuram village is one of the important Veerabhadra temples located in South India.

The temple is big but doesn't have many deities. The main shrine has a huge idols of Agor Veerabhadra Swamy in the standing posture along with Daksha in the form of goat. He is facing the north direction. There is a separate shrine for his consort, Bhadrakali facing the east direction. Two idols of Ganesha and Shanmukha are also located in this temple. The temple has only one big prakara (corridor) surrounding the shrine. There is no temple tower (raja gopuram). A huge tank is located in front of the temple.

It is not known how old this temple is and who built this temple.

Happy travelling.
