Rajim is a beautiful town located on the banks of the river Mahanai. This historical town is located at a distance of around 45 kms from Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh state. The site has beautiful temples with rich heritage and extraordinary sculptures. Let us explore this site in this article.

Rajim is unexplored by the people outside Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh states. However, for the villages and towns around Raipur, Rajim is a well known place due to religious reasons. Wherever three rivers confluence in India, the place is considered as important and is called as Triveni Sangam. In Rajim, the three rivers Mahanadi, Pairi and Sondur merge with one another. Hence, Rajim is also called as "Prayag of Chhattisgarh".

Rajiv Lochan Temple is the most popular temple in Rajim. The temple has many beautiful stone carvings of Hindu deities. Especially there are twelve pillars which have tall single figures such as Durga with eight arms, Rama, Varaha, Narasimha, Ganga, Yamuna, etc. Near this temple, there are small temples dedicated to Narasimha, Badrinath, Jagannath and Vamana situated.

Kuleshvara Mahadeva temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Even though it is in ruinous state, it is also visited by a large number of devotees. The temple is actually an island. During the rainy season, the temple is cut off from the mainland. The inscriptions of Somavanashis, Nalas and Kalchuris are found in this temple.

The statue of Lord Buddha in the meditative posture under a tree carved out of black stone is popular in this town.

Happy travelling.
