Haridwar is a religious city located on the banks of the beautiful Ganges river in Uttarakhand state of India. The city is an ancient city and has so many sacred places and temples for Hindus. It is considered as one of the seven most sacred sites of Hindus. Haridwar is dotted with a lot of religiously important sites such as temples and ghats. Let us explore a peaceful place called Sapta Rishi Ashram in this article.

Sapta Rishi Ashram is a quiet and calm place located at a distance of around 5 kms from Haridwar city in a place called Motichur on the banks of the river Ganga. The river is called as Sapta Sarovar in this place as it splits herself into seven currents. 

This beautiful ahsram was started in 1940s by Sanatana Dharma Society of Punjab. It is well maintained place which houses Sanskrit college and hostel rooms for poor students. 

The complex also houses sever shrines such as Ganeshji, Hanuman, Ram Panchayat, Durga, Sapta Rishis and Pancha Pandavas and Draupadi on the river banks.

Legend:

As per the mythology, the seven great sages namely Kashyapa, Vashishtha, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadwaja and Gautama meditated in this place and hence it is called as Sapta Rishi Ashram. The river did not want to disturb them and hence it got split into seven currents. Hence, the river is named as Sapta Sarovar here.

It is also believed that the heroes of Mahabharata epic, Pancha Pandavas and their wife Draupadi visited this place on their way to the heaven in their last few days.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque .
