Uthiramerur town is located near Kanchipuram city in Tamil Nadu state of India . An ancient temple called Kailasanathar temple is located here. Let us explore this beautiful but little known temple.
History:

It is believed that the Kailasanathar temple was built by the Pallava King Dantivarman in the 8th century CE. The front side mandapa was added by the Chola Kings later.

The temple has the inscriptions about the Chola Kings Raja Raja Chola and Rajendra Chola, Nayaka Kings such as  Bommu Nayaka and Krishnama Nayaka and Krishnadeva Raya of Vijayanagara.

The temple was in dilapidated state. Thanks to the efforts by REACH Foundation for restoring the structure of the temple. 



Temple Layout:

The temple is small and looks very beautiful. The vimana is very attractive. The sanctum sanctorum enshrines Shiva Linga called as Kailasanathar. The Shiva Linga is bigger in size. The unique feature of the temple is the sculpture of Somaskanda on the inner wall of the sanctum sanctorum.

Apart from Kailasanathar and Nandi which is facing the deity, there are no other deity found in the temple. There is no niche image, flag staff or tower.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. A 17th century Dargah with healing power - Mount Road Dargah, Chennai, India

Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque .
