Sri Matri Mandir

It was on the 22nd of December 1853 CE that Sri Sharada Devi came into this world in Joyrambati village. Today, the very place of her birth has been transformed into a divine sanctuary known as Sri Matri Mandir. Within its sanctified walls rests a marble icon of the Holy Mother, radiating her eternal grace and compassion.

 Puratan Bari
Nestled within the expansive complex surrounding the Matri Mandir lies Puratan Bari, a place of deep significance. This is where Sri Sharada Devi spent her days, amidst the tranquil surroundings. Inside, a photograph of Sharada Devi graces the walls, evoking a sense of her divine presence and timeless teachings.

Nutan Bari


As the number of devotees seeking her blessings grew, Sri Sharada Devi moved to a larger house nearby. Here, in this humble abode, she resided in four rooms with mud walls and straw roofs. One of these rooms was dedicated to her daily rituals and to meet her devotees. Today, a life-sized portrait of the Holy Mother adorns this sacred space, offering solace and inspiration to all who seek her divine grace.
Simhavahini Temple
Adjacent to the Matri Mandir stands the serene Simhavahini Temple, a place deeply cherished by Sri Sharada Devi during her time in Joyrambati. Here, the three Goddesses—Simhavahini, Chandi, and Mahamaya—are worshipped in the form of tall, slender metallic pitchers. Another deity, Goddess Manasa, presides over the main shrine, enveloping the temple in a divine aura of peace and devotion.

The tranquil ambiance of Joyrambati, with its sacred shrines and lush surroundings, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the divine legacy of Sri Sharada Devi. As we explore these hallowed grounds, may we be inspired by her teachings of love, compassion, and selfless service.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. The poor was forced to plough an infertile land. While ploughing the ground full of rocks, the villager noticed that blood was oozing out from a particular place. There, he discovered the image of the Goddess. It is a snake hole (putru in Tamil - where snakes live) in the form of a woman in a sleeping posture with her mouth kept open, and her bulged stomach like a pregnant woman. Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque . The other one is Dargah-e-Hazrath Syed Moosa Shah Qadri Baghdadi (Rahmatullah Alaihi), also known as Mount Road Dargah. It is the most popular Dargah across the city.
