Senji Kariya Manicka Perumal Temple

Senji, a quaint and lesser-known village located approximately 60 kilometers from Chennai in the Tamil Nadu state of India, holds hidden treasures in the form of two ancient temples. Amidst the serene surroundings, these temples stand as testaments to history.

One of these sacred shrines is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as the Janmejaya Eswaran temple, while the other venerates Lord Vishnu under the name Kariya Manicka Perumal temple. Though Senji remains relatively obscure, these temples offer a glimpse into the region's rich heritage.

Sadly, the ancient temple of  Vishnu, much like its counterpart in the village, bears the signs of age and wear. However, it remains relatively stable, sparing visitors from any immediate concerns.

As you explore this sacred site, you may come across inscriptions, hinting at its antiquity. Although the exact dynasty responsible for its construction remains a mystery, the sanctum houses  Vishnu, with his divine consort Lakshmi seated upon his lap. Here, he goes by the name Kariya Manicka Perumal, although the original nomenclature may have been lost to the annals of time.

The temple's atmosphere is further enhanced by the presence of a beautifully crafted niche image, Paramapatha Nathar, adding a touch of elegance to the sanctum.

Wishing you tranquil and enlightening travels as you venture through these ancient temple grounds.

Happy travelling.
