Vasant Vihar of Jiddu Krishnamurti

Serene locality, peaceful surroundings, vast green lawn, massive trees, varieties of plants, beautiful flowers in vibrant colors, and a magnificent house in the middle. A lovely library and an interesting bookshop. Such a beautiful place! For a moment, we forget the hustle and bustle of Chennai city and might start wondering if we have come to a posh villa in a hill station. Let us discuss the most beautiful and peaceful Vasant Vihar in this article.

"To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something, and it is only such love that can know freedom." It's one of the famous quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti! Do we need to introduce him? I don't think so. As otherwise also, it is not possible to talk everything about this eminent personality in such a small article. Vasant Vihar was founded by none other than him.

Jiddu Krishnamurti was an excellent speaker and a great philosopher. He was adopted by Dr. Annie Besant of the Theosophical Society. Dr. Besant even proclaimed that he would be the world teacher whose coming to the Theosophical Society had predicted earlier. A worldwide organization called the Order of the Star in the East was formed. The Society made J.K. the head of that newly formed organization.

In 1929 C.E., J.K. dissolved the Order. However, his followers did not leave him, and they remained his followers forever. Then, he started traveling all over the world and gave philosophical speeches. His followers grew day by day, and they regarded him as the greatest thinker of all time.

Krishnamurti Foundation India, KFI in short, is the organization started as a charitable institution by J.K. KFI has its headquarters in Vasant Vihar, located in Greenways Road of R.A.Puram locality in Chennai. This compound has a vast area of around 6.5 acres. Whenever J.K. used to visit Chennai, he stayed in Vasant Vihar. He gave his first talk on the lawns in 1936 C.E. In 1986 C.E., he gave his last speech. The stone J.K. used as his seat to deliver his talks is still on the lawn. This is where thousands of people gathered and listened to the philosophical speech delivered by this great thinker. We could feel the positive vibration for sure.

The library has many interesting books, written mainly by J.K., including his first book. The entire complex, be it the building or the lawn, is very well maintained by KFI.

Vasant Vihar - it's indeed a site that you should never miss to visit in Chennai.

Happy travelling.
