Sholinganallur Subramanya Temple

In this article, let me discuss Subramanya temple, located in the most happening Sholinganallur locality of Chennai city. The hustle and bustle of Sholinganallur or the busiest OMR, do not affect the serenity of this temple. This well-maintained temple, known for its cleanliness and neatness, was built in the late 1990s.

The temple does not have a tower. Instead, there is an arch at the entrance. The sanctum enshrines Subramanya and his two consorts, Valli and Devasena. Vaidyanatha Linga and Thaiyal Nayaki shrines are on either side of the sanctum, and all three shrines face the east direction.


The temple does not follow the typical layout of the South Indian temples. All three main shrines are in the middle of a big mandapa. There are many sub-shrines located all over this mandapa.

  • Selva Vinayaka


The outer prakara is vast and has a lot of trees and plants. A small Shiv Linga called Vaneeswara, Nagas under the holy tree, and a big shrine for Mari Amman along with Shiv Linga are located in this prakara.

Putlur Angala Parameswari Temple - Chennai

Angala Parameswari Temple in Putlur, near  Chennai  city of South India, is a unique temple. The Goddess is in the form of a pregnant woman in this temple. The icon of Angala Parameswari is believed to be self-manifested, called swayambhu.  As per the legend, a village head tortured a poor for borrowed money. The poor was forced to plough an infertile land. While ploughing the ground full of rocks, the villager noticed that blood was oozing out from a particular place. A 17th century Dargah with healing power - Mount Road Dargah, Chennai, India

Mount Road or Anna Salai is one of the most happening places in  Chennai . There are two famous Islamic shrines on Mount Road – one is  Thousands Light mosque . The other one is Dargah-e-Hazrath Syed Moosa Shah Qadri Baghdadi (Rahmatullah Alaihi), also known as Mount Road Dargah. It is the most popular Dargah across the city.
